Olly update

Well we decided to just leave Olly on Prevacid for his reflux. He seems to be having more good days than bad, so I don't want to risk any funky side effects from any new drugs. He is really starting to wake up to the world and smile a lot. I have kind of gotten a few laughs out of him, but I am still waiting for that first big belly laugh. Fritz's first laugh was right around 2 1/2 months. He had a great laugh from the get go. Here is a clip of one of Fritz's first laughs.

GRD

Well Olly has got it. Gastroesophageal reflux disease. We kind of figured he did, but now it is for sure. The problem is one of the two medicines his doctor prescribed has a list of side effects a mile long. Some of them are really scary. Here is the side effects list:

Possible side effects SIDE EFFECTS, that may occur while taking this medicine include drowsiness, weariness, dizziness, restlessness, jitteriness, anxiety, agitation, confusion, headache, trouble sleeping, or diarrhea. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience unusual or uncontrollable movements of arms, legs, face, eyes, tongue, mouth, neck, or jaw; unusual or unexplained vision changes; muscle stiffness; fever; sweating; mood changes including depression; or thoughts of hurting yourself.

Seriously!!!??? Who would want to give this medicine to their two month old? I will be talking to the doctor on Monday.

Tummy Troubles

We go for Olly's barium swallow tomorrow. Yikes! He has to show up having not eaten for four hours (totally unheard of for him) and then drink some junk from a bottle. Then they will x-ray his little tummy to see how much acid is going into his esophagus during feedings. I hope this provides him some relief. I am second guessing myself for even having it done because he has been farely pleasant the past few days. I guess it will let us know the extent of his reflux and how best to treat it. Pray for our little man and his tummy!

Keeping Tradition Alive

As promised we made it to another Astros opening day with Fritz and now Olly. Mark swears his sons will never miss an opening day. Fritz actually enjoyed it this year and Olly didn't scream so we felt it was a success.

We are going on two weeks now of Olly being on Prevacid for acid reflux. Overall I would say he is happier, but he is still really cranky sometimes. It is so hard to see your little baby in so much pain and not be able to make him happy.

Finally, Mark and I have just survived one of the crappiest things that can happen as a parent...the flu. We both came down with the flu and mine turned into bronchitis. We survived a weeks worth of aches, chills, coughs, and sky rocketing fevers. Luckily we are coming out of it and both boys are still healthy!
